HOW TO USE
Print out one specific target pattern for drill. Have your learner place their finger on each dot to sound out graphemes, or use as a reminder to "tap out sounds". Then have learners slide their finger on the line to blend the sounds together to make a word. Use for literacy centers, individual instruction, or home practice.
WHY PLAY?
"Decoding" or the ability to apply letter-sound relationships to sound out words, is CRITICAL to adding new words to a reader's mental dictionary of words recognized instantly. It also gives readers the power to attack new words they may not have seen many times before. Those with poor decoding or sound-letter relationships skills may struggle with reading. These readers benefit from explicit, mulitsensory, and systematic phonics instruction.
